Montclair State University Leo Kiely Award

The Alpine Tower Company and the Sackermann Family have established a memorial fund to honor the memory of their long time employee and friend Leo Kiely.

Leo was an alumnus of Montclair State University who began his career in cable television working for UA Columbia Cablesystems. From 1980 to 1994 Leo worked for UA at the Alpine Tower facility which was a headend and microwave facility. Leo’s diverse skills included headend operation, program switching and supervision of staff.  After a successful fourteen years at UA Colombia, Leo joined the Sackermann family’s team at CSC Management, LLC and its subsidiary company American Communication Facilities (ACF).  ACF was organized in 1994 to design, develop and implement a network of antenna site locations.  Leo had significant accomplishments in the areas of planning, project management, system design and coordination.  Leo was an essential part of the CSC team that helped the NYC Broadcasters restore their signals at Alpine after the 9/11 tragedy.

The scholarship fund not only honors Leo Kiely, but touches the lives of the next generation in the communication industry.  An annual scholarship is awarded to deserving Broadcast students in good academic standing.  This year’s Leo Kiely Award has been given to Lindsey Hresko, a second year Broadcasting major with a minor in journalism.  After Lindsey graduates from Montclair State University, she hopes to find a position in the field of directing and producing for television.  The Alpine Tower Company wishes Lindsey much success as she pursues her future academic and career endeavors.
